Position:President and CEO Unique hobby or ability: I am a voracious reader. Even though I am an extrovert, I could spend all day reading by myself. What do you do for fun? Read or spend time with other couples or a group of friends. Favorite 1Dental moment:When we moved from an old building where the air conditioning was hit-or-miss to a new one where the air is always on.

Brian Thompson

Position: Chief Financial Officer Unique hobby or ability: It’s not all that unique, but I’ve recently started running. What do you do for fun? I have 2 teenagers, so I get to go watch them play volleyball, soccer, cheerleading, and a host of other activities. Helping them grow into independent adults who not only take care of themselves but are a real help to others is fun for me. Favorite 1Dental moment: My favorite 1Dental moment is scheduled twice a year, and it’s when my family goes to the dentist. Our plans really are a help in making dental care affordable, and each time we go to the dentist it’s a good reminder of why we do what we do. Our plans really do save about half on each dentist visit.

Thaddaeus Lanthripe

Position: Director of Operations Unique hobby or ability: It might not be unique, but I really like to whistle. You can hear me throughout the day whistling a tune. I even take requests from people in the office! What do you do for fun? I enjoy spending time with my wife and son. I also like to be active and play almost any type of sport. Favorite 1Dental moment: My favorite 1Dental moment was when I was able to help a new member save over $2,000 on the dental work she needed. I was able to go through each procedure she needed, and the savings were huge.

Brian Carlin

Position: Digital Marketing Director Unique hobby or ability: Scouring early 20th century neighborhoods for great architectural and planning details. My wife and I love old neighborhoods. What do you do for fun? Lately: Read fantasy fiction novels. My latest conquests are Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings. And I love a good epic action movie, as long as it doesn’t have Michael Douglas. Few really do, so it’s not a huge hurdle. Favorite 1Dental moment: Internally, it would have to be when Aaron, our product development manager, dressed up as Elvis to introduce our launch of dental insurance on the site with extra flava (italics Aaron’s). I never did understand the connection, and was even more confused by this video, but it added a little spice to the insurance day.

Position: Product Development Manager Unique hobby or ability: I like making funny videos and doing bad Elvis impersonations. Oh, and my daughter thinks I’m hilarious. What do you do for fun? I like making new friends and hanging out with them and my family. Favorite 1Dental moment: I truly enjoy the people I work with at 1Dental. I trust them, learn from them and have fun with them.

Stephen Daniel

Position: Human Resources Generalist Unique hobby or ability: I play the drums and can beat box. What do you do for fun? I like to play the drums and go to the gym. I also really enjoy being around people, especially my co-workers. It’s like working with family. Favorite 1Dental moment: I love our employee birthday parties. When someone has a birthday, we celebrate with their favorite dessert (plus ice cream and Magic Shell); the person who is having the birthday is always the one to serve the cake or pie to the rest of us.

Kurt Laughbaum

Position: Database Supervisor Unique hobby or ability: Give me a pitch, I will tell you the note. What do you do for fun? I like being with family and fixing things around the house. Favorite 1Dental moment: Nearly winning our 2011 Doubles Ping Pong Tournament and starring in the last 15 seconds of our survey contest video. Also, helping a member save $1,500 on their dental bill.

Walter Hardeman

Position: Lead Web Developer Unique hobby or ability: Guitarist/Singer/Songwriter What do you do for fun? You mean besides building awesome websites, singing, playing guitar and writing songs? What is this, an inquisition? OK, I also like playing table tennis, watching college football and reading nerdy stuff like C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Terry Pratchett and R.A. Salvatore. Favorite 1Dental moment: About 3 months after I started working at 1Dental, I went to the dentist. Turns out I needed 3 fillings…not the news I wanted to hear. Fortunately, I knew that with our dental plan, I could at least save some money. I ended up saving about $300 on a $600 dentist bill! All I can say is it's good to know that I'm working to sell a product I can really believe in.

Raymond Wong

Position: Online Testing Lead Unique hobby or ability: Developing interest in video editing What do you do for fun? Camping with family, watching my kids learning or doing new things, watching anime produced by Studio Ghibli Favorite 1Dental moment: I had a root canal and a crown done a few months ago. After the initial examination, the dentist provided me a list of procedures with the exact discounted fees under the Careington plan. I do not have to go to another dentist to compare the fees knowing that they are fixed fees for dentists within the Careington network. It takes guessing out of the game.

Hannah Daniel

Position: SEO Manager Unique hobby or ability: I’m a tough competitor at any game of Limbo! What do you do for fun? I love to cook, go running and travel Favorite 1Dental moment: I once spoke with a woman who had just moved here from another country and was in dire need of dental work. She had noticed on her confirmation email that the plan she signed up for on our website was a discount plan and not insurance like she thought. She was very upset because her friend had warned her that there were a lot of scam artists in the U.S. After I explained how the plan works and that it is actually a nationwide plan, she became so grateful, because it was able to help her out of a desperate situation. It is so rewarding to be able to help someone in a big way when they really need it!

Jeff Gouldie

Position: Regional Sales Manager – Fort Worth, TX Unique hobby or ability: Making strange voices (one like Elmo that my daughter enjoys) What do you do for fun? Frisbee golf with friends, trying to stay in shape by running, getting things done Favorite 1Dental moment: Whenever a new telephone sales representative assists a new member in getting started on the plan. It is also fun because they get to take a picture with our “mascot,” Boris. People are often afraid of talking to others about something that could be generally helpful for them, and when I see people risk asking someone to get started on the plan and they succeed, it is something for them that is a relief and a joy. Helping people get started on the plan is good for business, obviously, but what we offer is generally helpful for people, so I enjoy when people can have an opportunity to lighten the cost of one area of their personal budgets.

Brad Meinen

Position: Regional Sales Manager – Norman, OK Unique hobby or ability: I like to snowboard. What do you do for fun? See above. Also I like to play basketball, baseball and soccer. Favorite 1Dental moment: When I first started, I was the first one to have to wear the “new guy bowtie” (Special thanks to Stephen on coming up with that one). On a more serious note, I had a guy who called in and told me how he went to jail and learned how to practice law and ended up proving his own innocence. Thus he went free from jail, but while in there, he acquired bad teeth and some gum diseases. He needed a dental plan, and this is where I come in. I signed him up for the Care 500 plan, and he lived happily with his dental plan ever after…
