FTC Warns of Discount Scams
The Federal Trade Commission is cracking down on medical discount plans and fake insurance policies taking advantage of people in tough financial situations.
The cost of medical and dental work keeps going up, and patients are getting slammed with exorbitant bills. This makes it easy for scam companies to swoop in and offer too-good-to-be-true offers to reduce or eliminate your bills.
Discount plans can save you a substantial amount of money on your medical or dental costs, but you’ve got to make sure you’re signing up with a legitimate company.
Full Fee Schedule
One way to ensure that your discount plan will truly save you money on your procedures is if you have access to the full fee schedule before signing up. If the company tries to hide its prices you could face a lot of hidden fees whenever you try to use the plan. You want to find a company that doesn’t lead you along a trail to pick up clues along the way.
For an example of a legitimate company, the CAREington 500 Series dental discount plan gives you access to the full fee schedule online before you even start an application, so you can know exactly what you’re signing up for. A scam company doesn’t want to be open with you, but we at 1Dental.com have nothing to hide.
Risk-Free Cancellation Policy
Check the cancellation/refund policy before you sign up – do you have to jump through numerous hoops in order to receive even a small percentage of what you originally paid? If so, it may be a scam, because the company wants to keep your money once they’ve got it – even after you figure them out.
Look for something like 1Dental.com offers, which offers a 30-day money-back guarantee along with no additional cancellation fee. We think you’ll really benefit from the plan, but we don’t want to trap you if, for some reason, it’s just not working out for you.
While you’re shopping around for a medical or dental discount plan, keep your eyes open and do some research before you sign up. A good discount plan can make your medical or dental work much more affordable.

This place saved me $487 for the year! They are a web-based service plus they are kind, caring, as well as take excellent care of their clients. Most importantly for me, they answer emails and reply telephone calls with humans.
I’m so glad we could help!
In cases where adjusters have that package thing by an attorney with records and documents, pictures along with other records and etc. For how long does it generally state in the letter to reply? Do adjusters actually reply by or on the date? Just how do they respond by telephone, e-mail, letter or fax?
1 Dental is a SCAM
Although I never experience any over charges, fees or anything un-expected I came across a lot of sheepish service representatives. I felt like they weren’t sure how to talk to a customer. Maybe they hate there jobs or maybe the manager has told them not to give out information in a friendly “customer service” type dialog. what ever the case I wasn’t impressed with the confidence on the other side of these telephone calls. Yes I said calls, meaning I spoke to a few different employees.
Confidence! Joy! people it’s what makes customers come back.
I’m sorry you feel that way, Jim. The Careington dental discount plan has actually been around since 1979, and the 1Dental office has been around since 1998 and is accredited with the Better Business Bureau.
