What You Need to Know About Wisdom Tooth Removal

Have your children had their wisdom teeth removed? As they enter their teen years, and on into young adulthood, the procedure becomes seemingly inevitable. According to the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, an estimated 85% of wisdom teeth eventually need to be removed, and an estimated 9 out of 10 people have the procedure at some point in their life–although it’s better to do so at a young age. 

Before you break out your video camera in preparation for your child’s wisdom tooth removal day (You’ve surely seen at least one funny video of a post-wisdom tooth removal experience), it’s helpful for parents and children to understand the process and procedure. Doing so will keep you informed and possibly allay some of the fears your child may be experiencing. Though a common procedure, kids may still be nervous about what’s going to happen to them. Helping them understand what they’re walking into can ease those fears.
