First-Time Dental Visit for Adults

There are two common types of cleanings an adult may receive at their dental visit--a regular cleaning or a deep cleaning, along with an oral exam and x-rays. Below are some sample dental bills for each using the Careington Care 500 plan.

The typical first-time dental visit includes bitewing x-rays, a comprehensive oral exam and a dental cleaning.

The dental bill above may vary depending on the kind of dental x-rays you receive. The bitewings x-ray is the most common, but there are many different kinds of dental x-rays and reasons for your dentist to use each one.

Deep Cleaning, Exam and X-Rays

If you go to your first dental appointment at the new dentist and are told you need a deep cleaning, your bill may look like the one below.

A deep cleaning, also known as scaling and root planing, is recommended if bacteria, calculus (tartar) and debris have collected under the gum line and cannot be removed by regular brushing, flossing or a typical cleaning.

The deep cleaning price listed above is per quadrant (a section of your mouth; 4 quadrants in all). Expect the total to increase if you need a deep cleaning for more than one quadrant.

The dentist or hygienist will numb the area before the cleaning begins. Anesthesia is typically included in the price of a deep cleaning.
